ASTM Inflatable Amusement Ride Safety Standards
The ASTM Committee F24 on Amusement Rides and Devices develops the standards that are the foundation for safety in the amusement ride industry. F24 standards guide design, manufacturing, testing, operations, inspection and regulations. While the ASTM standards are not laws, the standards often become law. Currently 42 of the 50 states have regulations governing mechanical amusement rides and most of these actively reference the F24 ASTM standards.
Now with the inflatable industry rapidly growing, the ASTM has created standards specific to inflatable amusement rides. It is a safe bet that in the near future many if not all of these standards will become law in most states.
Another important aspect of the ASTM standards is most insurance companies require inflatable amusement rental companies to adhere to the ASTM standards for inflatable amusement rides.
The Standards
Unfortunately the ASTM standards are sold for a modest sum rather than openly published, and we at Safety Air Systems are not allowed to reprint these standards. They do, however, cover all aspects of the industry, from manufacturing to operation. The current active standard for inflatables is ASTM F2374-07a: Standard Practice for Design, Manufacture, Operation, and Maintenance of Inflatable Amusement Devices. It can be purchased in pdf format Here.
